Hey everyone, I’m not making any bones about wanting to make money with this blog. Hopefully enough to live off it and any other side projects I want to do. To do that, I have to do things like post affiliate links and use programs like Google AdSense. The FTC has some handy dandy rules about this and I’m doing what I can to comply with them.
Affiliate links are the ones where, if you click on something from my site and it takes you to the page, then I get a small percentage of what you spend without it changing the price you pay at all. Probably the biggest, and most well-known, of these is Amazon. They are really particular about the exact wording so I’ve included it in the paragraph below and in the sidebar of the site.
Joe Greene is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
Additionally, advertising programs that fit nicely onto the page are a way to make money. They use information both from my site and from your browsing habits to try and provide you with links to things they think you’ll be interested in buying. Every time you click on one of these, and then do enough on the page it takes you to (I’m not sure if you actually have to buy something), I get a few pennies as the referrer. Google AdSense is the biggest of these and the one I’m most interested in using.
I promise I won’t try to sell you anything that I don’t have firsthand knowledge of. Any books or other items I link to through Amazon will be ones that I’ve read or used. Any posts promoting a product will be marked as such and will have my promise that I have used it. I may put together lists of things, like book lists, that will be clearly marked as well. If I wear a product, get comped for something (like lunch) related to the blog, etc, then I have to disclose that and I fully intend to. If you see something that looks like I haven’t disclosed it properly, let me know and I’ll fix it if necessary.
In keeping with the idea behind this little corner of the internet, the possibilities of making money with this blog are infinite and I’m going to do my best to be open and honest about it.
